ISBL 2004 UL MVP

First baseman Jim Thome of the Albuquerque Sidewinders was the unanimous choice as ISBL 2004 UL MVP. Thome batted .296 and slugged .700 while posting JC bests of 64 HRs and 163 RBI. Right fielder Trot Nixon of the Cartersville Cyclones, who batted .323 with 39 HRs and 139 RBI, finished second in the balloting with 56 points, three ahead of Sidewinders left fielder Hideki Matsui, who led all JC batters with a .358 average.

Albuquerque Sidewinders

ISBL 2004 UL Cy Young

Rookie Brandon Webb of the Albuquerque Sidewinders, who began his ISBL career this April with a no-hitter in his first start, captured five first-place votes to win the ISBL 2004 UL Cy Young Award. Webb posted a JC-best 2.31 ERA and led the UL in strikeouts with 242 on his way to a 21-3 campaign. Teammate Matt Morris, who led all JC pitchers in wins with a 22-7 record, nabbed the other two first-place votes to finish second in the balloting. Esteban Loaiza of the Chicago Bulldogs, who went 19-7 with a 2.32 ERA, was third.
