SET your PBP speeds to dead center in NetPlay
WAIT five seconds before clicking a baserunning/throwing prompt in NetPlay
DON'T USE the Quick 1-1 (6) button
CHECK playing limits in your manager profile, and PRUNE your roster down to 25
SPECIAL WARNINGS -- IMPORTANT! READ! As you can see above, there are some special warnings in playing with Version 9 that you need to keep in mind as you play your games until a patch remedies these glitches. First, there's a latency problem with NetPlay on baserunning/throwing decisions that can cause the game to lock up and do all sorts of weird things, like have your batter come to bat twice, even if he's already standing on base. We are hopeful that there will be a patch for this in the very near future. In the meantime ... When playing games over NetPlay, make sure to do the following:
Be sure to do this and remind each other to do this when playing, because if the game locks up on a baserunning/throwing play, you will have no choice but to abandon the game and start over. Sorry. Otherwise we'd end up with seriously cocked-up boxscores and stats and guys driving themselves in. Second, do NOT use the Quick 1-1 button (the 6 button), either by clicking on it with the mouse or by typing "6". Type in the pitch and defense selections separately and don't use that button. There's a glitch with the 6 button that could adversely affect games. Third, we would advise those of you that have already constructed manager profiles for Week 1 MP swaps to double check them to ensure that playing limits are correct. The last disk that was posted showed several players with settings of zero, and the CM will pass over many of these players when your team is away. You can see this on the final page of the profile where the players are listed. The playing limits on the Week 1 disk now posted have been corrected to the actual usage numbers, so if you haven't already cooked one up, use this disk to construct your MP. But if you already have put together an MP on an older V9 disk, you can correct the playing limits this way:
Of course, once you've corrected these playing time limits, you can manipulate them as needed to make sure that players are used only in the specific roles you want them to play (i.e. if you have a pitcher rated both to start and relieve, and you only want him used as a starter, you can set his relief appearances to zero). Also, be sure to note that in Version 9, there's a new page for setting player-specific tendencies, as well as team tendencies. Further explanation on some of these glitches and other intricacies can be found at the V9 SUPPORT PAGE. Another thing: MAKE SURE YOUR ROSTER IS DOWN TO 25 ACTIVE BEFORE YOU START. And then this added from an e-mail:
It's
occurred to me that with the v9 setup, when FTF players set their
rosters to 25 (or make changes to their roster between weeks), whoever
the host is won't have those handy, so you'll need to at least make
whatever pre-series changes on your disk, generate an MP file with
those changes (just like you would a file with played games to send),
and send it to whichever of the two of you is hosting. That's an
extra step we haven't had to contend with before with the NetMeeting,
where you could just make the changes yourself or instruct your
opponent to do so. And you can STILL instruct your opponent to do
so, but you'll need to do that before you link onto the NetPlay,
'cause there's no way to get to the MPs once you've linked.
Because of this, it's advisable that for the series, one team remains
the host throughout, who will have made his changes and installed the
MP (or made the changes as directed) of their opponent.
Switching
between who is the home manager and who is the away manager is pretty
simple if you're mid-series and already connected with one as home and
one as away. The host needs only to click on "NetPlay" in
the top menu line and then "Swap manager roles" to flip
them.
As
for changing options, this is done by the host. Make sure the settings
for the host are "Human" and for away are
"Remote." If for some reason, you get into the game and one
party doesn't have control of, say, baserunning, have the host go in
and fix it.
If you have any additional questions about V9 play, please direct them to stats@isbl.com. And with that, it's time to Play Ball!!! WELCOME TO THE ISBL GAZETTE This is where you'll find everything you need for the ISBL Season as it progresses from week to week, your newsletter and registrar's report all wrapped up with a pretty bow. Take a moment to view the different elements of this page. At the top, under the banner, you'll see a variety of clickable links and bookmarks to easily access different pages and information, including the current disk. The league logos and team abbreviations are also clickable to access additional information. A couple of weeks' worth of simmed games have been used to generate sample pages as an example. Starting next week, the actual ISBL stats will be in place for you to view. If you have additional suggestions for this page, please feel free to let us know at stats@isbl.com. Enjoy! AND NOW, A WORD FROM OUR COMMISSIONER ... Welcome
once again to the Internet Simulated Baseball League. This
is a blatant re-hash of the same email I send out every season just
before releasing the Weekly ZIP file, but it's a good refresher for
everyone. First
off - no matter how much you believe those stats, ratings and
probabilities, please remember that DMB did a very good job of leaving
enough room so that Murphy's Law can still hold true. You'll sit
there thinking the game is unfair. Its biased against you.
You can't win. Then you realize - naw, its only that way to the
Arizona Raccoons. Through
all the trials and tribulations you will encounter over the next 162+
Games - remember one thing - the frustrations against a "sure
thing" are what make DMB the quality product it is - and accepting
those things and resisting the urges to cheat and replay the games make
the ISBL the quality league that it is - please keep that in order. First
Off: NEVER,
NEVER, NEVER use the EXPORT LEAGUE DATABASE Function. Whenever you
are sending or receiving statistics from anyone other than the
COMMISSIONER you use Import Statistics or Export Statistics. Using
EXPORT LEAGUE DATABASE will RUIN your stats and you
will need to replay the games. So
ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS remember:
EXPORT STATISTICS not LEAGUE DATABASE Second
Off: Plan
in advance. Even before I send out the newsletter with the latest
Season Disk and who is playing who, contact the next owner if you are
hoping to play Face to Face. Find out when they are available and
when you are available and when you can play the games. If you're
playing by Manager Profile, send a reminder if you are playing the HOME
games first to your opponent "hey, the first games are at my park,
send me your manager profile and starting pitchers ASAP so we can get
this done". Play the games quickly so they can play their
games, etc. Mondays
(when everything is due) come QUICKLY. Third
Off: THE
ONLY ROSTER MOVES YOU MAKE ARE PROMOTING AND FARMING PLAYERS - NEVER
ENTER A TRADE. You aren't good enough :) Trades are done by
the league officers and the league officers only. This ensures
that no player will ever get an "Extra" week of playability.
If you make a trade with another owner, you do NOT make
the trade in the league disk. Fourth
Off: The
commissioner of the league is Italian. Get all of your stats in by
Monday or else. Or else what? No, some guy with a middle
name of "The" is not going to show up and smash your kneecaps
with a baseball bat, but your games WILL be played for you. WEEKLY
SCHEDULE: Tuesdays:
The
latest ISBL Newsletter comes out and with it the latest ISBL Season
Disk. Download it and install it ASAP Wednesdays-Mondays:
Play
your games versus your opponent and get them into the league officers
ASAP. DOWNLOADING
AND INSTALLING THE LEAGUE DATABASE: The
link to the current league database will be in the ISBL Newsletters -
you will always want the latest database as they have the latest trades
and statistics in them. UNLIKE when you import or export stats,
this is the league database and you will want to click on TRANSFER /
INSTALL LEAGUE DATABASE when you are inside of DMB9. AT
NO OTHER TIME SHOULD YOU IMPORT OR EXPORT THE LEAGUE DATABASE OTHER THAN
THE WEEKLY UPDATE FROM THE ISBL COMMISSIONER - DOING SO CAN ERASE GAME
DATA!! HOW
TO EXPORT STATISTICS OR MANAGER PROFILES: You
will need to export a manager profile for your opponent to use for your
away games. To do so: Within
Diamond Mind Baseball (Duh....), click on TRANSFER / EXPORT STATISTICS
-- The first prompt that comes up is asking for MANAGER PROFILES -
select your team from the list and click NEXT
-- Now its asking for games, click NEXT
-- Now its asking for transactions, click NEXT
-- Give it a name like (TeamnameWeek#.zip) - IE: ARI01.ZIP and click
FINISH Then
browse through your Windows Explorer to the \DMB9\ISBL\EXPORTS directory
and you should find the file (ARI01.ZIP) there. Send that to your
opponent. When
you export statistics you should name the ZIP file (Away@HomeWeek.zip)
like - NES@RAC_W01.ZIP
(for nessmen @ raccoons, week 01). This makes it easier for your
dimwitted commissioner to figure out who is sending in what :) EXPORTING
STATS IS NO DIFFERENT, JUST BE SURE THAT THE GAMES YOU PLAYED ARE
VISIBLE IN THE LIST. Once
you have exported those stat files for the week - remember to send them
both to your opponent and to STATS@ISBL.COM
so we can get those imported into the Database for the Next Week's
Zip File! HOW
TO IMPORT STATISTICS OR MANAGER PROFILES: First
off when someone Emails you a ZIP file with their Manager Profile /
Games, save it to your hard drive (preferably your desktop). Go
into DMB9 and click on FILE / IMPORT STATISTICS and then go to the
Desktop (or wherever else you elected to save the file) and you should
see the .ZIP file there. Double-click on it and it should import
quickly and properly for you - that's all there is to it! This
has been the down and dirty version of helping you get ready for the
league operations. 162 games is a ton of 'em.. get ready for
a long, fun season - and best of luck to everyone (except the Nessmen!) --
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to ask any
of the ISBL Officers. All series are 6 games, scheduled 4/5, 4/7-11 (except where noted). First team listed is the away team for the first 3 games.
The following players exceeded 110% usage this past week. They have been mandatorily farmed for the year and are ineligible for postseason play.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE CUT YOUR ROSTER DOWN TO 25 MEN BEFORE STARTING THIS WEEK. Friendly reminder: The only moves you can make in the middle of the series are to put someone on the DL or to take them off (and an accompanying promote/farm to cover THAT player). And be sure to consult the list below to see when your player is eligible to come off the DL. Remember what Troy always says. Recheck your manager profile weekly to make sure phantom zeros aren't popping into your usage limits. Check to see if you have injured players, or players eligible to be reactivated. Be sure to check that your roster is at 25, especially if you have acquired new players through trade or free agency, as the game tends to make all of these players active. PAY ATTENTION TO OPPONENT'S INSTRUCTIONS If an owner takes the time to send you an MP and/or instructions as to how to install his pitchers/lineups, take care to use these. Seen a couple of instances this year where MPs have been sent, only to be ignored/looked over/forgotten by opponents. If they're sending you an MP, it means they have changes from what's on the disk that may affect their rotation, or player usage, or whatever. So use them. Otherwise, you're risking having to play the games over again. And might get fined for repeated occurances.
We
had this happen again recently.
Please, when your opponent has
taken the time and care to create an MP for your series that week,
make sure to import it into the database. If you're unsure that
you're doing things correctly, please contact Micah, Troy or Tim for
help. Some important things to consider:
You can track your finances, as well as your payroll ceiling, at the ISBL Finances page (http://www.isbl.com/isbl_2004/isbl_finances.htm).
If you want players put up for auction, you need to send an e-mail to stats@isbl.com by Thursday afternoon stating what players you want put on the board. Players will typically be put on the board at 9 pm Eastern Thursday night and stay there for 72 hours. If you are a new owner and need to set up an auction account, please contact stats@isbl.com. Please be sure to check if you have injured players. This lists only players already placed on the DL. These players were DL'ed during the past week and must remain there for at least 15 days:
The POWs return next week, with voting for Batters and Pitchers of the Week in the Senior and Junior Circuits.
